Cannabis Coconut Oil Recipe

Initially, you need to decarboxylate the cannabis, meaning that you should heat marijuana to release its THC and activate the healing compounds.

You will need:

  • One ounce of cannabis buds
  • A baking sheet
  • Parchment paper


  • Preheat the oven at 115oC / 240oC;
  • Break up the flowers of cannabis along with the buds into smaller pieces with the hands. One
  • ounce will be enough, but you can use more or less;
  • Take a rimmed baking sheet and put the pieces in one layer, making sure the pan is the correct size, so that there is no empty space on it;
  • Bake it for 30-40 minutes occasionally stirring every 10 minutes so that it can toast evenly;
  • When it becomes darker in color, a light to medium brown, and has dried out, remove the baking sheet, letting the cannabis cool off. When handled, it should be quite crumbly;
  • Pulse the cannabis until it is coarsely ground in a food processor. Do not make a superfine powder.
  • Take an airtight container and store it in it, using it as needed to make extractions.

Here is how to prepare the oil:


1 gram decarboxylated marijuana
1 ounce cold-pressed virgin coconut oil


In a glass jar, add the crushed marijuana and the coconut oil, tightly fit the lid and place in a saucepan full of water. Over a low heat, heat the water slowly for an hour, without boiling.

Next, strain the solids in the oil with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, and transfer it into another sturdy glass jar. Then, just squeeze the liquid from the cannabis into the oil.


You can either consume the oil or use it topically. You can eat the solids you have removed as well, cooked or baked in your meals. Also, you can use this oil in cooking. Yet, make sure you avoid high heat, in order not to cook out the active marijuana compounds.
